A Message From the Executive Board
A Call For Action
Dear Members of the Af-Pak-India Diaspora:
We are inviting you to join us in promoting peace and security in the Af-Pak-India region. Given the region’s history, we know war is not a means to settle conflicts. We need a bold new strategy. This strategy is outlined in the following pages.
The time to implement this new approach is now. It is evident that there is a strong desire for peace and stability among those in the region, as indicated through a number of opinion polls conducted by national and international organizations. A majority of the respondents, especially the younger generation (under 30) who constitute almost 50% of these countries’ population, expressed the need for sustainable peace, better education, economic growth, job opportunities and a better way of life.
Based on one of these surveys, a new grassroots movement, Aman ki asha, was initiated by the Times of India in India and The Jang Group in Pakistan. This movement actively engages the citizens of both India and Pakistan in building peace and mutual trust through the exchange of people and ideas and the promotion of public opinion for peace. We need to support this initiative. It is through such efforts, where people take charge of their own destiny, that sustainable peace in the region can truly be achieved.
Erasing Borders was created to support such local initiatives and to create a global constituency for peace, by engaging the Af-Pak-India diaspora. We believe this diaspora can be a critical partner in local efforts to promote sustainable peace and stimulate educational, economic and job opportunities in the region, with their skills, experience, resources and knowledge of the region and its culture.
Your support is critical. We invite you to sign up as a Citizen Diplomat to sow the seeds of peace, quality education, economic growth and job opportunities in the region. To strengthen our base, we are also recruiting non-governmental organizations (NGO) to work with us. To date, two US-based NGOs have already joined to support our efforts.
We are convinced that normalizing relationships between and within these three countries will have an enormous impact on South Asia’s economic future. The region has the potential to become a vibrant economic entity, given the market potential of the region, availability of human resources and the cultural similarity of the people.
This is a rare moment in history. Responding to the needs of the people and investing in the future of the emerging youth, we could create a new narrative for peace that would bring stability and dignity to the lives of over a billion people.
Please join us in this journey to Give tomorrow a chance!!
